Is it normal for a mom to be obsessed with her daughters' dancing?

There is this mom I know who has an 11 year old daughter. She owns a dance studio and her daughter is in it. However, they constantly drive 2 hours to NYC every weekend, and go to workshops for 4 days at a time about every other month. All they do is upload videos of her dancing. All they ever talk about is dancing. It has gotten to the point where the girl has gotten a big head she gets praised so much. I was just wondering, is this the norm now? I have a boy myself and am wondering if I am right in thinking it is over the top, or if it is completely normal. What do you guys think?
