Straight pipe on a 98 eclipse gst.....?

ok i have two exhaust ( y split) and i want it louder so i want to cut it and make a straight pipe. i want to kno if it would sound better and if i would lose power. and if it does how would i fix that. o and its a 4 banger. thnx n the smart azz answers are not needed here ha.
