I would suggest a hybrid. A racing bike would not be good for mountain bike terrain. You may want to consider a specialized bike that is specific for commuting. It comes with aspects that are intended to survive mean streets and harsh traffic. As for where do you get your equipment? Go online and get what you need and pay the price in shipping, but you will have what you need.
